Atkinson/Stuart Arts Council

The Atkinson/Stuart Arts Council is a non-profit organization dedicated to bring quality arts events and activities to the surrounding area. The arts council has an annual season that begins in the fall and ends in the spring with special events throughout the rest of the year. We also act as co-sponsors to events with businesses, schools and organizations interested in bringing programs to the area.

The A/S Arts council board is made up of individuals from Atkinson and Stuart who, on a volunteer basis, develop the programming for each year and are always looking for new ways in involve the communities in projects to improve the arts base in the area.

The Atkinson/Stuart Arts Council is sponsored in part by the Nebraska Arts Council and Nebraska Arts Endowment, the Mid-America Arts Alliance and national Endowment for the Arts.

The Arts Education Partnership is a division of the Atkinson/Stuart Arts Council. The Partnership, through Creative Collaboration has brought together a bond between the arts council, local businesses, and local schools, in order to encourage sustaining current fine arts programs in the schools and enhancing said programs. We are advocates for the arts and step in where we see a need and lend support to those who are trying to maintain programs in this area.

We advocate by presenting informational programs to any local business, school, or organization that wish to find out more about the need for arts education in our school systems. We also keep track of decisions being made by local, state, and national school boards and legislators concerning arts education issues and do what we can to promote arts education in our country.

We have also developed a Summer Fine Arts Workshop for children grades K-6. For one week in June children have a chance to participate in three sessions a day with professional artists, developing their artistic skills. We completed our fifth year for the workshop in the summer of 2001.

Our long term goal is to have a fine arts center in the community that would house art exhibits, performance venues and classroom space for the education and enlightenment of all people in the area.
