Stuart Public School

Stuart Public School's population is 157. The Stuart Public School district encompasses 120 square miles. The entire staff is directly involved in the development of curriculum and the writing assessments to guide the implementation of the curriculum and the student's learning. Our staff has been trained in the Curriculum Leadership Institute's model and we have worked collaboratively with Butte Public School, Lynch Public School, and Spencer-Naper Public School to develop a common curriculum and assessments. The Nebraska Department of Education has adopted our K-12 math curriculum as being more rigorous than the state standards. Our K-12 Science curriculum has been submitted to the Nebraska Department of Education and we are anticipating the same results. During this school year, we are reviewing the Math and English assessments.
A major accomplishment at Stuart Public School during the summer of 2004 was the landscaping project on the south and west side of the school. Two elementary classrooms received new carpet and several classrooms and hallways were painted. These projects were made possible through grants and donations from various organizations and individuals.
New projectors and computers were purchased and paid for through NCLB grants. Another "Smartboard" will be purchased for students and teachers to use in their respective classrooms. The Technology committee is developing plans to focus attention on what our technology needs will be in the future.
The 2004-2005 school year has been a successful one for the students and teachers.
Highlights are: The Speech team were crowned State Champions; The Mock Trial team were crowned State Champions and will be competing in the National Mock Trial competition in early May; the football team qualified for state playoffs and they won the first round game; the volleyball, girls' and boy's basketball teams were district runner-up; FFA and FCCLA excelled at the district and state competitions; Sarah Kaup was named State FCCLA President and Jessica Murphy is a National Officer candidate for FCCLA; the students received runner-up honors at the Chadron Scholastic contest and they received championship honors at the Norfolk Scholastic contest in their respective divisions. We are anticipating continued success next year.
Also, the Stuart Public School Educational/Activities Fund was created this past year under the Stuart Community Foundation. The purpose of this fund is to provide additional financial support for our high school operations. For the 2004 year, the total amount of cash donations and in-kind contributions equaled $36,762.03.
