The first Saturday in August is the place to be every year in Stuart, Nebraska. Stuart is home to The Sandhills Livestock Show. Since 1986, the Stuart Park has been home to this annual event that hosts 4-H and FFA members to show their livestock. Previous to this time, the show was held in nearby Newport, Nebraska. The 2007 show will be held on August 4th, so make plans to attend.
The 2006 show was held August 6, 2006. It was another success and was well attended by Nebraska 4-H and FFA members. Contestants were awarded with cash and prizes valued at over $1,000. The Stuart FFA students provided the committee with some great help on the day of the show. A concession stand was available for contestants and spectators. Once again, donations from local businesses and individuals made the show possible.
The current Sandhills livestock show committee consists of: Dennis and Sandra Garwood, Earl Olberding, Jim Ramm, and Justin Jarecke. We could really use some additional volunteers, if you are interested, please contact one of the committee members.
The show continues to be sanctioned by the Junior Nebraska Cattlemen. The committee feels that this has increased show numbers as well as quality of cattle.
Be sure to mark your calendar and plan to attend the 2007 Sandhills Livestock Show on the first Saturday in August. It's a great opportunity to watch Nebraska youth proudly show their livestock projects and compete for some great prizes!
